There we were coming back from Lanai. Going to Maui for our second dive. We arrive on the Kaanapali coast and start suiting up for a dive when lo an behold we see a swimmer approaching the boat at a steady clip. We were offshore about 200 yards.
I am putting in divers from the first group. The swimmer is swimming in a determined way and I look to see if it is someone I know. But it isn't. When he reaches the boat he jumps up on the swimstep and steps onto the boat....YES, completely naked!
Myke(My co-crewmate) sez to me "Erik I think he wants to talk to you". So I go back there and ask if he is OK. He sez "Yes I am VERY HAPPY!." "That's Good" I say," however we are running a charter and you are not allowed to be naked here right now so if you need to rest please do so in the water". He does a back flip off the swimstep and rests in the water.
After the divers are gone I tell him he may rest on the boat. He jumps up tells me he is is 17 years old,and very happy. He has a little difficulty communicating as English is not his mother tongue but I get the idea. I say to him he may rest here for now but he must be gone before my first diver comes back."OK", He sez and does another back flip into the water. Then he sez "I am going to swim to that boat", motioning towards a parasail boat moored about 100 yards off. "Aloha",say I.
What transpires next is he arrives at the parasail boat, finds the key to their toolbox, opens the toolbox and sets off not ONE but Two flares. This draws the attention of the boat owners who go out there to find him trying to start their boat with the locker key. "What are you doing!" they say. "I am trying to start my boat" "That is not your boat." "Yes it is"" No it is not "," Yes it is"," Do you want to tell that to the police?"" Sure"...Next thing you know they have him in a dinghy taking him to shore and putting him naked into the hands of the boyz in blue. Who handcuff him and take him away.
